The City of Daytona Beach Shores embarked on its first-ever City-wide Parks & Recreation Master Plan. Acknowledging a purposeful planning approach should be put in place prior to the outlay of substantial financial resources, the City proactively identified the importance for this critical, multi-faceted planning effort.
This City-wide Parks & Recreation Master Plan is a foundational tool intended to serve as a comprehensive guide for the planning, acquisition, development, operations, and maintenance of public parks, park facilities, and recreation programs throughout the City. More specifically, the Master Plan will assist the City and its residents in the formation of programming needs and priorities as well as long-range visioning necessary to inform future parks and recreation facility development and programming. Ballard*King provided demographic information which indicated a community with a significant population in the older age groups, however a recent increase in younger families. This was putting stress on existing facilities, programs and events stretching staff and resources. B*K highlighted opportunities for diversifying recreation activities and updating existing facilities to provide more diverse offerings along with prioritization and funding.
