The City of Gladstone is a 2008 All-America Cities award winner, and home of the Gladstone Community Center. The community center is approximately 80,000 sq. ft. with an array of components to provide diverse recreational opportunities for its citizens.
The leisure pool includes zero-depth entry, a large pirate ship, flume slide and spray features. The competitive pool includes an 8-lane 25-yard lap pool, starting blocks & competitive timing, replay board, viewing well, spectator seating for 1,500, a diving well, 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards and four 20-yard warm-up lanes.
The fitness center is 5,000 sq. ft. and includes a cardiovascular area, free weights, circuit equipment, semi-private fitness room for active older adults and youth circuit training. Additionally, there is a 2,000 sq. ft. aerobics room, 1/16-mile indoor track, full court gym, two basketball courts and six basketball hoops.
This project was on a fast track, as the City of Gladstone was looking for capital cost estimates and an understanding of operating costs prior to City Council making a decision on whether to place a funding issue on a local ballot measure. B*K provided market analysis and programming assistance as well as, estimating operating cost and revenues. B*K’s work became the foundation of a successful planning process that culminated in the construction of the community center.
